A Parent’s Story:  How Melissa Hannah and the DuBard Association Method Changed Our Lives

2016
I was a desperate mom, grasping for anything that might help my child. I prayed daily for the strength to keep fighting—for someone to see what I saw in him. While others had given up on him, I couldn’t. I knew there was hope. I watched my sweet boy fall further behind in school, overwhelmed, defeated, and believing he just wasn’t “smart like the other kids.” He was ready to give up, and I couldn’t let that happen.

Then we met Melissa Hannah, and everything changed. She didn’t just teach us how to help him--she saved us.

2017
Melissa reached out and encouraged me to take her DuBard Association Method® Basic Course—a five-day, nine-hour-per-day training. It was a 40-minute drive each way, and as a stay-at-home mom of three living on a single income, it seemed impossible. But she told me, “You won’t regret it,” and she meant it. My husband and I prayed, and we knew this was the only path forward. He took on side jobs to help cover the cost, believing in the investment—not just in me, but in our son’s future.

I went. I studied. I tested. I learned.

And I was absolutely amazed.

That training not only transformed how I helped my son, it changed the course of my life. I went on to work at one of the most incredible schools in our state, using the DuBard Method every day—and falling in love with the moment when it finally clicks for a child who’s been struggling.

DuBard isn’t just an intervention program.

It’s a way of teaching, a way of reaching kids who’ve been broken by a system that didn’t understand them.
It gives them confidence, joy, and a chance to feel capable—sometimes for the very first time.

This method changed the lives of all three of my children. And mine was changed by the countless students I’ve had the honor of working with since.

Melissa is not only an expert—she’s a gift. She teaches with heart and dedication, making sure every trainee truly understands the method inside and out. What she’s brought to Arkansas is special, and I will forever be grateful for her.

If you’re a parent, a teacher, or an interventionist thinking about this training--do it.
You’ll walk away with more than just knowledge.
You’ll walk away with tools that change lives.

A Parent’s Story:  Programs are not a one-size-fits-all

After a year of my 8-year-old son receiving Orton-Gillingham (OG) instruction with very little progress, I started to worry that something was being missed. In many of the online parent groups I’m in, OG is often presented as the gold standard—and while it’s a powerful method, I’ve learned it’s not one-size-fits-all. I didn’t know there were other options until I met Melissa Hannah.

After just one assessment session, Melissa recognized that OG wasn’t the right fit for my son’s specific language delay. She recommended the DuBard Association Method®, and everything changed. Within just a few sessions, I saw tremendous growth—not just in his skills, but in his confidence.

I truly believe that if we hadn’t made the switch to DuBard, my son would still be struggling to read today. Melissa’s knowledge, insight, and ability to personalize instruction made all the difference for us. I’m forever grateful.”

A Parent’s Story: Don't stop searching for the right fit!

My son struggled from the start—daily stomachaches, tears before and after school, and a deep belief that he just couldn't learn. We tried everything—private school, tutors, therapy centers—but nothing helped.
Everything changed when we found and began working with Melissa Hannah. For the first time, he was taught in a way that made sense to him. Within months, he went from barely reading to reading on grade level. But even more important—he found his confidence. The anxiety was gone. The joy returned.
Melissa gave him hope.   We will forever be grateful.
