Cost: $550
This 3-day institute is designed to help educators strengthen foundational literacy instruction across grade levels and settings. Participants will build a deeper understanding of speech-to-print instruction, orthography, morphology, spelling development, and the relationship between oral and written language.
This training also emphasizes maximizing instructional impact regardless of the curriculum being used. Participants will review and compare components of common literacy programs, examine scope and sequence, and learn how to determine instructional emphasis for students with different levels of need.
Participants will learn how to:
  • Understand the relationship between speech-to-print, orthography, morphology, and spelling
  • Strengthen understanding of oral and written language development
  • Compare components of programs such as IMSE, CKLA, UFLI, Wilson, and Fundations
  • Review scope and sequence across programs
  • Determine instructional emphasis for students with varied skill levels and needs
  • Apply instructional considerations across grade levels and settings
  • Teach spelling rules and patterns more effectively
  • Embed morphology instruction throughout the grades
  • Incorporate activities that strengthen fluency and comprehension
