Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to meet with different professionals in Arkansas and provide training on diagnosing and treating children with Dyslexia and how to administer and interpret their 2 assessments. My favorite part about presenting is the questions I am asked. Sometimes they are difficult to answer because there are a variety of variables that can influence the answer particularly the environment in which the services are provided. Regardless these tough questions always open up great discussions among professionals. Even though I am asked to present and share my knowledge with those attending, it never fails that I learn something new as well. This is particularly true when I get to meet with other Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists. I don't know why some professionals feel the need to fence off their area of expertise. Each discipline and each professional provides another look at a child and often times collaborating with others is precisely what gives us the complete picture of the child. A complete picture makes our intervention more effective which results in success for the child AND that is what this is all about!!!
