Academic Therapy
Academic therapy is a specific approach to promoting academic success in children. It is more than tutoring which is often an opportunity to have assistance with homework or review concepts previously taught by the classroom teacher. As a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) and Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), I have a unique skill set that teaches children how to capitalize on their strengths while remediating their areas of weakness.
Academic therapy is very prescriptive and focused on remediating the underlying deficits causing a child to struggle academically. There are a wide variety of reasons why a child is struggling and a therapeutic approach allows the child the opportunity to incrementally and systematically strengthen areas of weakness in order to promote success not only in the classroom but in the future.
Although it is not required, an evaluation is recommended prior to beginning academic therapy. An evaluation provides the critical information needed not only by the academic therapist but also the child'e teacher to better assist the child. If your child has already been evaluated please provide the therapist with a copy of that information.
Please follow contact me for an appointment or to further discuss any questions or concerns unique to your child. I look forward to helping your child reach his or her maximum potential.
